There was an article about pop-up headlights on Jalopnik last night. Unfortunately, by this morning, it had 70 comments. As far as I can tell, no one mentioned the Opel GT rotating headlights, which were manually operated. There was a lever next to the emergency brake that connected to a rotating mechanism.
Since, with so many comments, no one would have seen this one , I will post it here:

That’s cool but, couldn’t they put a reverser in there so they open symmetrically? Yes, I know I have issues

Awesome. So does the manual/mechanical aspect mean it was less prone to breakage you think?

I owned an Opel GT and always wondered why they chose to have them open in the same direction. It would not have been difficult to make them open symmetrically.

The mechanical linkage was very robust. I never had a problem with it, and it would have been difficult to break. The lever also felt very solid.

So, in other words, Opel had made s better pop up headlight. It’s a pity this didn’t catch on then..

That is unusual, and I’ve never seen it before. According to the link , it was only av ailable on the 1980-82 GL and BRAT models.
